Chef Jimmy Schmidt leaves Morgans in the Desert

Jimmy Schmidt, 3 times James Beard awarded chef, is following his culinary imagination to new projects with Lucky’s Wagyu Beef BBQ and SmartCookie Popups, opening late 2018.  Joining him is Brian Recor, former Chef of Morgans along with other team associates, for these new culinary adventures.

For the last seven years Jimmy as the Executive Chef of Morgan’s has achieved numerous awards at Morgan’s in the desert at La Quinta Resort, including 2016 USA Today’s Top Farm to Table Restaurant and Open Tables Best for Foodies, as well as hosting annual James Beard Foundation Celebrity Chef Tour Dinners and as a guest judge on Top Chefs California Series.

Jimmy and Team first appeared in the Coachella Valley dining scene with Rattlesnake Restaurant at Trump 29 Casino in 2001 and later at the Classic Club before founding the Morgan’s in the desert concept for Waldorf Astoria at La Quinta. The Morgan’s name will continue but without Jimmy’s guidance, menus and management team.

Jimmy Schmidt is a three time James Beard Foundation awarded chef studied in Electrical Engineering, Culinary Arts & Business at Harvard. He has been honored by the prestigious 5 Star Diamond Award for Rattlesnake Club, the Ivy Award, NRNews Dining Hall of Fame & many more. Schmidt has authored 4 cookbooks and 20+ years of food articles. Jimmy is the founder of Food Shed Exchange the pioneering connector of artisan foragers, fishers and farmers to sustaining Top Chefs.
